Cold Brew vs. Iced Coffee: What’s the Real Difference?

Comparison between a glass of dark cold brew and a lighter iced coffee with ice

When the temperature rises, coffee lovers face a critical choice: cold brew or iced coffee? While they both end up cold, the methods used to create them result in vastly different experiences.

The Brewing Method

Iced coffee is simply hot-brewed coffee that is cooled down and poured over ice. Cold brew, however, is never heated. It involves steeping coarse grounds in cold water for 12 to 24 hours.

Flavor Profiles

Cold brew is famous for its smooth, low-acid profile with chocolatey and nutty notes. Iced coffee retains the bright acidity and complex aromatics of hot coffee but can sometimes taste bitter if not brewed correctly.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you have a sensitive stomach or prefer a rich, syrupy mouthfeel, cold brew is your best friend. If you love the crisp, floral, and acidic notes of a classic drip coffee, stick with iced coffee!
